7 Years Later, City Center Has Become Part of Guwahati’s Story

When City Center first opened its doors, Guwahati was entering a new phase of urban growth. Consumer aspirations were shifting, organized retail was gaining momentum, and younger audiences were beginning to seek spaces that offered more than shopping alone.

Over the last seven years, City Center has evolved alongside that transformation.

As Northeast India’s largest shopping center, the mall introduced national and international brands to the region at scale, helping establish Guwahati as an increasingly important retail destination. In doing so, it contributed to a broader shift from fragmented retail formats toward more curated and experience-oriented environments.

The impact became visible not only through commercial performance, but through changing lifestyle patterns. Malls gradually became social spaces, places where people spent time, connected, celebrated occasions, and built routines beyond transactions.

City Center emerged at the center of that shift.

With consistently high occupancy levels, strong footfall, and steady trading density, the development has often been recognized among the stronger-performing retail assets in the region. Several brands within the mall have reported growth comparable to, and in some cases exceeding, larger metropolitan markets.

At the same time, the space developed a cultural role within the city. Festivals like Bihu, Durga Puja, and Christmas brought large community participation, while concerts, food carnivals, movie launches, and public events transformed the mall into an active social hub.

Its influence also expanded digitally. Through creator collaborations, youth-focused engagement, and a strong social media presence, City Center extended itself beyond physical infrastructure into everyday digital culture.

Seven years later, the mall reflects something larger than retail success. It reflects the growth of a city becoming more connected, aspirational, and experience-led, and the role shared spaces continue to play within that evolution.
